News from the studio

Exciting things going on at the studio to say the least... We are just getting started on a very interesting project with Helena Hernmarck. I'll publish some pictures later this week on the blog. And in September the other big loom will be set up for another exciting project - but more on that later on.

I sometimes wonder if it is possible to have this much fun and still call it work...

Another thrilling thing is that I finally bought a wall hanging in appliqué technique by Sofia Widén that I have been eying for more than two years now! I found it in an antique store south of Stockholm and it is a real beauty. It took some time to gather the courage and money to make the buy.

A couple of weeks ago I found out that I had gotten the research grant I applied for. So now I will continue my research about Sofia Widén! When I found out the good news I decided that now was the time to make the big buy.

So here it is; Sofia Widén's "Karabinjärer" from 1956.

In the new research project I am going to look closer at the printed fabrics that Sofia Widén designed in the 1950's. They were sold individually as well as being used as an important component in her wall hangings in appliqué technique. This can also be seen in this piece. Two of the soldiers helmets are made out of a fabric called "Domino" and on a soldier's body is another fabric called "Katedral" ("Cathedral").

It is wonderful to see all of the small details of the wall hanging. My favorite of the moment is the long shape of the legs and knees.
